The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner poster

A little joke to warm up the review:

‘Just heard a commentator say a soccer team play the long ball game, correct me if I’m wrong but that’s rugby’

This movie opens with a community of boys trapped in a maze with little hope of escape. In the centre of the maze there is a ‘Glade’, so at least it smells nice.

Finding their way out isn’t as easy as it would seem as this Labyrinth contains giant Spider like creatures called ‘Grievers’. I don’t know why they are called this, perhaps after killing one of boys they are sad about it.

To map out the maze they send the strongest of the boys to run through it during the day, this element of the film doesn’t last long and was a disappointment to me as it was advertised in the film information as running time-113 minutes.

One thing I found weird was that toward the end of the movie, the first lady is introduced to the male community, but she doesn’t once mention the president.

I think choosing a maze for them to be trapped in is the best choice out of all the possible puzzles as I don’t think the movie would have been the same if they were imprisoned in a crossword.

 I give this movie 7 Marks(immons) out of 10.

The Amazing Spider-man 2

The Amazing Spider-man 2

A little joke to warm up the review:

‘My mate asked how the 100m race works, I said it’s quite straight forward’

This is the second instalment of this franchise and who better to direct Spider-man 2 than the aptly name Mark Webb, because the movie really leaves its MARK on you.

Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker and really nails his performance, which should be expected as it’s the Social network and the Amazing Spider-man actors 3rd movie where he spends most of his time on the web.

Emma Stone (Gwen) is also back as Garfield’s love interest but he is unsure whether they should continue seeing each other. She proves valuable to have around tho, when her scientific knowledge helps him to amend his web shooters using magnets to defer the power current so it works against his enemy. There has been a lot said in other reviews about their on screen chemistry but I’d say that in this case it was more electrophysics.

Jamie Foxx's character Max Dillon is an electrical engineer at Oscorp and becomes Electro after slipping and falling into a tank of electric eels whilst at work. He then phoned the National accident helpline, received compensation and no more was said about it.

Midway through the film Gwen tells Peter she wants to move to London and he says he would go with her. This movie wouldn’t work if it was set in London, mainly due to there not being enough high rise buildings and also the eels. Jamie Foxx’s character wouldn’t be anywhere near as intimidating made out of jelly.

 I give this movie 7 Marks(immons) out of 10

Locke

Locke

A little joke to warm up the review:

‘I walked past a restaurant and outside there was a sign saying ‘the ribs are back’, and I thought yeah but they are mostly front’

This movie is entirely set in the Tom Hardy’s  characters car travelling down the M6 following his built-in sat nav while speaking to people on the phone attempting to sort out some big problems.
Problem 1- 7 months previous he had a one night stand, he is on the way to the birth of his love child and he has to tell his wife.
Problem 2- He has left work the day before the most important event in a huge multi million pound project and has to instruct a drunk Irishman how to deal with it in his absence.
I think I enjoyed this movie because I can really relate to the story as I have just got a new car with a built-in sat nav.

The script is very well written and has some brilliant subtle comedy. I give it 9 Marks(immons) out of 10
